Abstract

The establishment of the AEC (ASEAN Economic Community) as a continuation of
AFTA which is the ASEAN Trade Block as well as one of the pillars of the ASEAN Community
(late-stage regionalism) is part of the trend of various formations of regional-economic groupings
by the Nation-States that create a a phenomenon called Nodlle Bowl Effect. It is all the behavior
of the State-Nation in its efforts to gain economic and political advantages, thereby the
integration of the regional economy only a framework in the pursuit of national interest. So if the
State-Nation feels harmed or does not gain economic and political advantage then the Nation-State
shall
abandon such groupings or form another similar grouping. The AEC is established on a Top- Down
current and as a framework to improve the bargaining power of ASEAN Member States in the global
association. The peak stage of integration by Balassa is the transfer of sovereignty by
the related countries and the member states of the AEC are not yet ready to do so. Therefore we see
contradictory and inconsistent attitudes in the AEC by the AEC Member States.
